On July 29, 2022, President Xi Jinping sent a message to Nick Vurobalavu to congratulate him on his inauguration as President of the Republic of Vanuatu.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Vanuatu is China's good friend, good partner and good brother in the Pacific island region. The comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Vanuatu is deepening day by day, and exchanges and cooperation in various fields have yielded fruitful results. It has become a model of mutual respect, solidarity and cooperation among developing countries. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vanuatu. I attach great importance to the development of China-Vanuatu relations and am willing to work with President Vurobalawu to open up broader prospects for China-Vanuatu relations and benefit the two countries and the two peoples.
