Vanuatu President Moses Met with Wang Yi
2022-11-14

On June 1, 2022, President Moses of Vanuatu met with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Port Vila.

Moses warmly welcomed the visit of the Chinese Foreign Minister on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. China always pays attention to Vanuatu's needs, gives priority to helping Vanuatu improve people's livelihood and vigorously build Vanuatu's infrastructure, which has brought great benefits to the Vanuatu people. The Vanuatu government and people will always remember this. China has proved with practical actions that it is a true friend that Vanuatu can trust. Likewise, no matter how the international situation changes, no matter what challenges will be encountered in the future, Watts will always be a true friend of China. Vanuatu will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy and take this as the cornerstone to promote greater development of Vanuatu-China relations.

Wang Yi emphasized that, unlike some major powers, China's diplomacy has always adhered to sovereign equality, and has always treated all developing countries, especially small and medium-sized countries in a sincere and equal manner because we share common historical experiences and are fully aware of the importance of sovereign equality and national dignity to small and medium-sized countries' importance. Not only that, we are also firmly safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries at the international and regional levels, especially in the UN system. We will continue to work in solidarity with developing countries, uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, adhere to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, and safeguard international fairness and justice.

Moses said that Vanuatu and China share a common desire for development. Vanuatu highly agrees with the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, and also believes that people of all countries, regardless of race, nationality or class, should equally enjoy the rights to peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy and freedom.

The two sides agreed to strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, enhance mutual understanding and promote people-to-people bonds. Wang Yi appreciated Vanuatu's incorporation of Chinese language education into the national education system, and expressed his willingness to build a bridge of friendship and support more Vanuatu youths to learn Chinese, so as to pass on the friendship between China and Vanuatu from generation to generation.

On the same day, Vanuatu Prime Minister Rafman led the main cabinet members to hold collective talks with Wang Yi and jointly attended the signing ceremony of bilateral cooperation documents.
