Vanuatu Prime Minister Rafman Leads Major Cabinet Members to Hold Collective Talks with Wang Yi

On June 1, 2022, Vanuatu Prime Minister Rafman led Vanuatu's Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Finance Minister and other key cabinet members to hold collective talks with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Port Vila.


Prime Minister Loughman spoke highly of the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China with Xi Jinping at its core, congratulated China on successfully achieving its first centenary goal and building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way, and welcomed the Chinese delegation's historic visit to Vanuatu. An important signal that China is committed to continuing to advance Vanuatu-China relations. Rafman said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 40 years ago, China and Vanuatu have trusted each other and are firmly united. Sincere thanks to China for its great assistance to Vanuatu's stable and sustainable development for a long time, China has proved to be a true friend of Vanuatu with practical actions. Vanuatu is willing to continue to adhere to the one-China policy as the political cornerstone, and take the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" as the guidance of cooperation, so as to push the Vanuatu-China comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.

Wang Yi thanked Prime Minister Loughman for leading the main cabinet members to hold collective talks with the Chinese delegation at the China-aided International Conference Center, which fully reflects the great importance the Vanuatu side attaches to bilateral relations and the high level of bilateral cooperation. Wang Yi said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vanuatu 40 years ago, the two sides have trusted and supported each other and lived together like family, leaving behind many touching stories of friendship, which has become a model of mutual respect, solidarity and cooperation among developing countries. China is willing to summarize successful experience with Vanuatu, jointly plan the next 40 years of bilateral relations, and continuously inject new impetus into building a China-Vanuatu community with a shared future.


The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges and reached broad consensus on advancing bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation in international and regional affairs.

The first is to enhance political mutual trust. The two sides agreed to carry forward the tradition of mutual respect and equal treatment, and continue to firmly support each other in safeguarding their core interests and national dignity. Strengthen inter-party exchanges and exchange of experience in state governance and administration, and improve state governance capabilities.


The second is to adhere to mutual benefit and win-win results. The two sides agreed to align development strategies, tap cooperation potential, jointly promote high-quality joint construction of the "Belt and Road", make full use of the development opportunities provided by China, and expand the export of high-quality tile products to China. The two sides will develop a blue partnership. While continuing to promote cooperation in traditional fields such as infrastructure, they will further explore new cooperation priorities such as new energy and digital economy, so as to help Vanuatu enhance its independent development capabilities and improve its international competitiveness.


The third is to continue the friendship between the people. The two sides agreed to strengthen personnel exchanges and consolidate the social and public opinion foundation of China-Vanuatu relations. Wang Yi said that China welcomes Vanuatu to incorporate Chinese language education into the national education system, and is willing to continue to support Vanuatu's Chinese language teaching and cultivate more ambassadors of friendship between the two countries by dispatching Chinese teachers and carrying out two-way language and cultural exchanges. China will continue to join hands with Vanuatu to fight the epidemic and dispatch a new batch of medical teams to help Vanuatu maintain the health of the people.


Fourth, deepen strategic cooperation. Both sides agreed that genuine multilateralism should be adhered to, solidarity should be adhered to in fighting the epidemic, and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind should be promoted. Loveman spoke highly of and is willing to actively participate in the global development initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. Wang Yi expressed appreciation and welcomed Vanuatu's support for the global security initiative, practicing the common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security concept, and making positive contributions to maintaining world peace.


Fifth, strengthen regional cooperation. The two sides believe that the "twin engine" role of bilateral cooperation and the China-Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers' Meeting mechanism should be brought into play to make concerted efforts to accelerate common development.

Wang Yi introduced the important contents of the position paper on mutual respect and common development with Pacific island countries just released by China, saying that the position paper has released a clear signal that China is willing to deepen political mutual trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and safeguard common interests with the island countries, and it also provides a clear signal for both sides. Step by step cooperation to make comprehensive plans and put forward specific measures. China's cooperation with the island countries is open, open and transparent. We will continue to work with the island countries in solidarity and mutual assistance and move forward hand in hand.


Rafman said that the Vanuatu side spoke highly of the important role of the China-Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers' Meeting mechanism, expressed that he was very excited about the vision and vision put forward in the Chinese side's position paper, appreciated the Chinese side's continuous efforts to build six new platforms for bilateral cooperation, and firmly believed that the cooperation with China will surely Better help island countries seize development opportunities, and will also further enhance the bilateral cooperation between island countries and China.

After the talks, the two sides attended the signing ceremony of cooperation documents such as economy and technology, medical and health care, and marine economy.
