On 26 October 2022, Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu Li Minggang met with Chairman of the National Council of Chiefs of Vanuatu Palasuva.

Ambassador Li first conveyed the cordial greetings of State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and said that during State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to Vanuatu in June this year, the Grand Chief held a grand traditional Melanesian ceremony to welcome the Chinese government delegation, which reflects the friendly relations between China and Vanuatu and the deep affection and kindness of the Vanuatu people towards the Chinese people. Both China and Vanuatu have been bullied by Western powers in history, and the two peoples have helped each other in the struggle for national freedom and independence. We are good neighbors, good brothers and good partners in the big Pacific family. At present, the Communist Party of China is united and leading the Chinese people in building a beautiful and modern country. We are also willing to help Vanuatu, a friendly country, achieve common development. China values the unique role of the Council of Chiefs in building a harmonious society in Vanuatu and its influence in guiding public opinion. The Chinese Embassy is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Council of Chiefs to build a bridge of friendship between the two peoples.

Parasuva expressed her pleasure to participate in the reception of the distinguished Chinese guests and asked Ambassador Li to send her best wishes to State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. He said that Vanuatu and China enjoy a time-honored friendship and the Chinese people have given precious support to the Vanuatu people in their fight against colonial rule and struggle for national independence. After Vanuatu's independence, the Chinese side, like a family member, continued to help build much-needed infrastructure and send medical teams to benefit the local people. These kind acts are deeply appreciated by all of us. May the friendly Chinese people build a beautiful homeland and enjoy a better life under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The Council of Chiefs will continue to contribute to strengthening people-to-people exchanges and enhancing people-to-people ties between the two countries.
